'Yellow vest' protests sweep Canadian cities following influence from French movement

Yellow vest protesters take to the streets of cities across Canada this weekend to denounce the country's immigration laws and federal carbon tax policy.

Demonstrations took place in Edmonton, Toronto and Calgary, among other cities.

This video, filmed in Grand Prairie, Alberta, shows protesters gathered on a snowy field and holding up signs. Some are seen donning the signature yellow vests that have become an icon in the French movement.

According to local media, some protesters called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “traitor,” yelled racial slurs and talked of “fake news.”

The protesters were met by a smaller group of counter-protesters, who denounced the demonstrators as racists and fascists.
