Armed police diffuse hostage situation at Cologne train station


German police were called to a hostage situation today (October 15) in Cologne as a woman was taken hostage by a man in a pharmacy at the main train station in the German city.

Police can be seen surrounding the entrance of the station on Breslauer Platz where negotiation units made contact with the hostage-taker.

The hostage taker has been apprehended with serious injuries and the hostage is now safe but being treated for minor injuries.

Local media say the incident does not appear to have been terror-related.
