Beachgoers and wildlife officials team up to save dozens of pilot whales washed up on Georgia beach

Beachgoers and wildlife officials teamed up to save a pod of pilot whales that washed up on a beach in St.Simons Island, Georgia.

Footage shows dozens of whales swimming in the shallow waters close to the beach on July 16.

Rescuers were seen pushing and shoving the distressed marine mammals back to the sea.

Three of the whales died while the rest made it safely back into the sea, local media reported.

Pilot whales are often involved in mass strandings due to their social nature, according to the American Cetacean Society.
