Chinese dad arrested after throwing ‘lucky coins’ at plane

A Chinese dad has been arrested after throwing some "lucky coins" at a plane for his daughter's first flight at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport in central China.

The video, filmed in Wuhan City, Hubei Province on April 2, shows a man named Xia in a red jacket having his final passport check and then walking to board the plane, followed by his wife with their four-month-old daughter in her arms.

However, Xia suddenly throws a handful of coins at the engine of the plane before stepping into the cabin.

The security officer spotted Xia's abnormal action and stopped him to ask, then called the police.

According to reports, Xia's mother-in-law advised him to throw some coins at the plane to pray for good luck for his daughter's first flight.

The ground staff searched the tarmac for the coins and finally found them on the ground near the plane engine.

The No. HU7783 flight from Wuhan to Urumqi was delayed for half an hour. Xia was detained for ten days, reports said.
