Cold snap brings snow and transport problems to much of Greece

Temperatures in central and northern Greece have been below freezing for almost a week, during which time heavy snow has fallen, disrupting transport services and forcing flights to be diverted.

This clip shows the Greek city of Thessaloniki blanketed white on Saturday.

According to the filmer, the city has been completely paralysed by the blizzard with no public transport running, few cars on the roads and most shops closed.

According to the filmer, people were emerging from their homes with the "sole purpose of enjoying the rare scenery by throwing snowballs or building snowmen."
