Dancing stray dog steals the show at Mexico festival

This is the adorable moment a stray dog stole a street performer's big moment by chasing after her as she spun around with fireworks coming from her hat.

The amusing scene was captured in the city of Oaxaca in southern Mexico during the traditional Las Calendas festival on February 8.

Footage shows a woman in a traditional dress holding a basket with lit fireworks on top of her head as the dog, named Mazapan, spins around in front of her and barks as the fireworks go off.

The dog has become an internet sensation since the footage emerged on social media.

An online petition has been launched to have the pooch officially recognised as the cultural image of Oaxaca and also to ''make people aware of respect, care and animal protection in the state of Oaxaca''.
