Essex University evacuated amid reports of 'suspicious package'

A major evacuation of the University of Essex's Colchester campus happened earlier today (March 6).

Students and staff were sent to an open space on the campus.

The incident happens hours after ‘suspicious packages’ were found at the University of Glasgow and at a bank in Edinburgh.

The University of Essex tweeted: "Part of our Colchester Campus has been evacuated after a suspicious package was reported on Campus.

"All timetabled teaching events have been cancelled, please make your way home. We expect to be open as usual tomorrow."

Improvised explosive devices were also found in London yesterday at Heathrow Airport, London City Airport and Waterloo station.
