Floods wash away bridge in Philippines

This is the moment a newly-built bridge was washed away by a raging river that burst its banks during rainstorms.

Resident Kim Oliveira said the current became even stronger after her neighbours removed the water lilies and rubbish that were blocking the flow.

She said: "They didn't know the force was enough to destroy the bridge."

She said that they were now using a boat to cross the village that is divided by the river.

No one was hurt in the incident in Bataan, the Philippines, during heavy monsoon rain last Monday (August 5).
