Game Warden rescues deer stranded on icy river

Wildlife all across the southern US is experiencing extreme conditions. The calls for injured or periled wildlife have been numerous for our Wardens in the field.

Game Warden Spencer Grace (Kay County) responded to a report from a concerned resident, Kyle Stewart, of Ponca City who lives near the Arkansas River indicating a deer was stranded on the ice. With today’s high of 3 degrees Fahrenheit time was of the essence.

Grace equipped with a rope and waders was able to drag the deer to the bank assisted by local outdoorsman Benji Evans. After several minutes the young doe was able to walk off to thick cover. Mother Nature is never kind but her odds are better now than what they were on the ice.
