Hundreds flee from Tottenham estate after police arrive at the scene of 'block party'

Hundreds of people started fleeing from Broadwater Farm estate in north London after police arrived at the scene.

Filmed by Emre from his flat on Wednesday night (July 24), several police officers can be seen walking towards the large group of people in the road.

This seemed to trigger panic amongst the crowd, seeing people frantically run in every direction while screaming and shouting.

Emre told Newsflare: "So I was on the upstairs of my flat. [I] saw hundreds of people running away from the party so I went downstairs where I had a better view.

"Where we call the 'frontline of the Farm', there was a good 600/700 people partying just like any other time. Very loud music alongside.

"There was already police presence but after the incident, more police came over and a helicopter was flying around the whole night.

"Me and the family was frustrated as during the day they burnt the bins and all sorts. So we were afraid to even go outside.

"Our cars were all parked up and had to keep an eye out all night. My brother who is 8-years-old was shaking from the screaming and all sorts."

The Metropolitan Police have since released a statement on Twitter saying: "We are aware of inaccurate reports of a shooting at the Broadwater Farm Estate, #Haringey #N17 last night. A loud bang was heard, however no evidence of any firearms discharge found. One man found suffering a stab injury, this is not life-threatening."
