In China, 1,200 people threw hot water into -53 degrees Celsius air, creating giant ice clouds

More than 1,200 people in China's "coldest town" threw hot water into the air to create spectacular giant clouds of ice at a festival on Saturday (December 22).

The video, captured in Daxing’anling Prefecture in northern Heilongjiang Province, shows firefighters lying on the snow-covered ground to form a shape representing -53.2, which represents the lowest recorded temperature in the town's history.

Hundreds of other people also took part, throwing the hot water into the air.

The hot water can be seen freezing immediately and condensing into clouds before blown away.
