Luminous 'blue tears' phenomenon lights up waters on Chinese beach


The incredible "blue tears" phenomenon turned the ocean waters a luminescent blue at Pingtan Beach in southern China.

The spectacular video, filmed in Fuzhou City in Fujian Province on May 13, shows the waters lighting up when splashed by tourists walking and playing in the sea.

According to reports, the "blue tears" phenomenon was caused by a type of algae, known as noctiluca scintillans.
