Man in Greek bank threatens to self immolate, set building alight


A man enters a Greek bank holding two canisters of gasoline and a lighter Friday, threatening to self immolate and simultaneously set the bank alight.

According to the filmer, the man coated the floor, himself and the bank office with flammable liquid and kept the lighter in his hands, threatening to use it if his demands were not met.

The bank was immediately evacuated, while police, the fire brigade, and the special anti–terrorism unit (EKAM) were deployed. "Τhey drove me out of the bank immediately, saying there was a problem," one woman stated on camera. "Later we heard that a man threatened to self-immolate inside."

Eventually EKAM immobilised the man. The incident took place in the center of Thessaloniki.
