New York Mayor renames road to 'Sesame Street' and announces annual Sesame Day

The famed fictional "Sesame Street" is now the permanent name of West 63rd Street and Broadway in Manhattan's Upper West Side, as of yesterday (May 1).

This was unveiled ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary where Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke at the ceremony and proclaimed May 1 as annual Sesame Day!

He was joined by the puppeteers who brought beloved characters Big Bird, Elmo, Grover and more to life on Wednesday during the street’s renaming celebration.
