Penguins almost squashed as giant elephant seal chases them across beach

Incredible footage of an elephant seal nearly crushing a group of penguins who were in his area of the beach in South Georgia.

The clip, filmed on December 21, shows the male elephant seal scoping out the beach to find a mate, when he sees a group of penguins resting in the wrong area and decides to charge his sizeable bulk at them.

“Once he’d rested on the beach, he then moved off heaving his huge body like a giant grub as penguins scattered to stay out of his way.” Bob, the filmer told Newsflare.

Southern Elephant Seal males grow to 5.8 metres (19 feet) long and weigh up to 4,000 kilograms (8,800 pounds), and are typically five to six times heavier than females.
