Rubbish atmosphere: bar opens in Tokyo refuse collection centre

This must be the only bar in the world where you can enjoy your favourite alcoholic beverage while watching a crane rummage through mounds of rubbish.

The Waste-Pit Bar is now open for business at a refuse collection centre in Tokyo, Japan and is aiming to attract customers with an interest in learning about waste disposal, according to the people behind the project.

"This event is for adults to enjoy alcohol while learning about the waste disposal facility in front of the waste pit," said Ayana Seki from the Musashino Clean Centre.

"We also want to increase awareness about classifying disposable waste correctly to avoid accidents and make the process of recycling as smooth as possible," she added.

The bar will also be serving healthy food but you might not want to gaze into the mounds of household waste below you as you eat it.
