Sprinkler water turns to steam on contact with surface during UK heatwave

Water from a sprinkler in Hammersmith, London instantly turned to steam when it hit a garden's decking today (July 25) as the country endures a heatwave.

Filmed on Iffley Road at 12:09 the absorbed heat in the decking creates an instantaneous transformation of liquid into gas.

The filmer said: "Shortly after putting the sprinkler on I noticed what looked like smoke coming from the decking.

"Then I realised it was the water from the sprinkler heating upon contact with the decking and turning to steam."
