Station worker's surprise close encounter with huge polar bear on Arctic island

Having nosy neighbours is one thing, but Arctic station workers on the Russian island of Stobolvoi have to deal with polar bears wandering in from time to time!

Video filmed in August 2018 shows the curious bear looking around one of the cabins on the polar station, even taking a sniff at the filmer's hand.

Eventually dogs chase the bear away and he runs off elsewhere on the island.

The filmer was amazed by the scene and can be heard calling the inquisitive bear 'Mishka' and commenting that "his paws are cute."

At one point he even asks: "Mishka, why do you come so close to us? Stop bullying in our territory."
