Surfer's massive wipeout followed by incredible jet ski rescue in Portugal

After falling off his board, this Portuguese surfer narrowly escapes being crushed by a huge wave as a jet ski comes to the rescue.

Veteran surfer Salvador Villas Boas was riding one of the biggest waves of the day in February 2019 until a bump knocks him off into the water near some rocks in Nazaré, Portugal.

As the second wave closes in on the stranded surfer professional jetski rescuer Ramon Laureano saves Villas Boas by dragging him out of harm's way.

Pedro Miranda, who captured this dramatic footage, told Newsflare: “This rescue in particular was truly one of the most heroic moments I witnessed out there. With more than 20 years of big wave experience, Ramon performed one of the most difficult rescues one can attempt in Nazaré.

"To pick up someone directly on the first peak’s impact zone between waves is something you don’t see every day here. Ramon was a real hero, no doubt!"

Praia do Norte beach, near the fishing village of Nazaré, has become famous worldwide for huge waves.
