Tens of thousands attend Hong Kong pro-democracy protest

Tens of thousands of people have attended a protest in Hong Kong against a now-suspended plan to allow extradition to mainland China.

The protesters marched through the shopping district Wanchai, also home to police headquarters, which was barricaded behind fences and water barriers.

The protests have gone on for weeks and resulted in the shelving of plans to pass a law allowing extradition to mainland China.

Protesters now have a wider range of demands, from guarantees that the extradition bill will never be brought back, to the resignation of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, and greater democracy in the territory.
