Toronto volunteers prepare aid for Cyclone Idai victims in Mozambique and Zimbabwe

About 200 volunteers in Toronto, Canada on Saturday helped to put together emergency kits for people affected by Cyclone Idai in southern Africa.

GlobalMedic, a Canadian registered charity and a disaster response agency organized the local relief effort at its headquarters in Etobicoke, according to CBC.

The volunteers assembled about 2,200 kits for people in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, CBC reported.

The official death toll from Cyclone Idai, which tore through southern Africa more than a week ago, rose sharply on Saturday.

The number of people declared dead in Mozambique rose from 242 to 417, officials said.
