Tropical storm batters coastal homes in the Philippines

Footage shows how a coastal village in the Philippines was battered by strong waves during Tropical Storm Hanna on Saturday (August 3).

Local resident Julie Aroy took the video from the window of her floating home in Davao City.

She said: "Every August, we experience strong currents and wind with or without a typhoon."

Eight families lost their homes that day and went to the evacuation centre at the storm, also called Storm Lekima, wreaked devastation on the region.

Aroy explained that they had to begin gathering pieces of wood from the ruins so their neighbours can have some materials to repair the houses when the storm passes
