Tsunami sirens wake Chilean residents as 7.3 quake strikes region

A border town between Chile and Peru has issued tsunami sirens to warn local residents after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit southern Peru this morning (March 1).

Sirens can be heard in Arica in northern Chile signalling the possibility of a tsunami due to the quake.

Many of residents near the epicentre have been advised to evacuate their homes to the streets after reverberations have sparked fears of structural damage to buildings.
