Two dugong wash up dead on Indonesian beach in mysterious circumstances

Indonesian residents found two dugongs, one adult and one juvenile, washing up dead on the shores in Abasi village in West Papua Province.

Footage shows a carcass of one of the sea mammals floating in the shallow waters of a beach on July 11.

Residents can be seen tying ropes around a bloated carcass before transporting it inland.

Scientists at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of the University of Papua are now working to establish the cause of death of the marine mammals.
