Volunteers rescue seal cub from beach in Lancashire, UK

Volunteers rescued an exhausted seal cub from Rossall Beach in Lancashire in the UK on Saturday.

The local couple, who had only recently completed a course in how to rescue stranded seals, were deployed by the RSPCA after reports of a young seal on the beach.

They tried to encourage the marine mammal back into the sea but with high winds and powerful waves still battering the Fylde Coast, the seal was too exhausted to make its way out to the open sea.

The volunteers then caught the animal in a towel, covered its eyes and kept it calm until the RSPCA arrived.

The RSPCA took the seal to Sea Life Centre at Blackpool to rest and feed overnight, before taking him back to Walney to be released back into the Irish Sea.
