Woman spotted with fox resting on her shoulder in crowded Moscow metro station

Among sights not usual to a commute, a woman in Moscow was spotted with a tame fox resting on her shoulder in a packed metro station.

The footage, filmed on November 13 in Kashirskaya station, shows the furry companion looking unfazed as its owner boards a train.

Other commuters also appear largely uninterested by the sight.

The filmer posted the video online with a humorous caption: "There are women in Russia who like wearing real fur, but who are against killing animals."

Although such a scene would likely turn heads in the UK or Europe, a Soviet-era selective breeding programme means there is a special set of red foxes in Russia that have been domesticated.

As of 2014, Russian officials believe there are up to 2,000 domesticated red foxes still alive.
