A gritty competition! Indonesian town hosts thrilling ox-plough racing

A specialised racing contest was held in eastern Indonesia, where farmers were competing to see who could plough their rice fields fastest using their oxen.

Footage of the event filmed in Probolinggo, East Java on March 9, shows men driving their ox-ploughs at great speed across a flooded rice paddy, with some losing their balance and nearly flipping through the air.

The race is held normally before the start of each planting season and is considered unique to the farmers of the Probolinggo area in Indonesia as a festival.
