Angry Kashmir protest held outside Indian embassy in London

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside India's London embassy, to express their anger at the Indian government's removal of special status for Kashmir.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has removed special constitutional provisions for Kashmir that date back to India's independence. The region has also been flooded with security forces, the internet has been largely cut off, and activists allege a crackdown on dissidents.

Protest organiser and CEO of Restless Beings, Mabrur Ahmed, said India was creating a "colonial settler stateā€ inside Kashmir.

Kashmir is largely split into Indian and Pakistan-administered territories. Both sides are majority-Muslim. Both countries claim the territory of Kashmir in full.

Some Kashmiris in Indian-adminstered Kashmir, particularly those from non-Muslim minorities, have welcomed the Indian government's move. Many others are thought to oppose it.
