Bolivian activists place shoes outside court in protests at sexist killings

Bolivian activists on Friday staged a protest outside a courthouse in protest at violence against women.

The female demonstrators placed 56 red shoes outside the building in Santa Cruz de La Sierra.

They said the number of shoes represented the exact number of women who have been killed in sexist violence in Bolivia so far in 2019.

The activists said they were calling on all levels of government to put in place "mechanisms to stop all forms of violence against women."
