Clashes erupt between Bogota police and student protesters in final education protest of the year

Student demonstrations in Bogota demanding for more higher education funding descended into violence on Thursday, December 13.

The march began at around 3 pm as demonstrators headed off from the National University towards Journalists' Park. In the video, police armed in riot gear can be seen firing tear gas to disperse unruly protesters.

Thursday's demonstration marks the last in a series of marches, many ending in violence, organised by students demanding an increase in funds for higher education. Student enrollment in the South American nation's public universities has quadrupled since the early 1990s, while spending has only marginally increased.
