Crustacean Nation! A horde of hermit crabs invade Japanese beach

Hundreds of crabs on the Japanese island of Okinawa came out in force earlier this year (September 12), to the shock and surprise of one microbiologist.

Filmer Yumi Shirai Green was there with a PhD student and was picking specimens from the beach for a microbiology experiment, when she came across the cast of crabs.

Green said: "I was just surprised, it’s kinda gross too."

The hermit crabs were spotted on a beach near the island's capital city of Naha.
