Elephant invited as chief guest to flag off new temple wing

Officials of a temple in South India invited a trained elephant, Pallattu Brahmadathan, to flag off a new wing.

Pallattu, who is popular with the devotees of Lalam Mahadeva Temple near Kollam, did everything a human guest would.

He stood at the new door patiently, knocking it gently. After it was unlocked from inside, he nudged it open and stepped in.

Pallattu then took a majestic walk inside the temple as devotees, officials and a band of musicians led him. He also took part in various temple rituals, including the lighting of lamps, and ended his visit accepting treats.

Temple officials said their elephants worked hard to serve the temple and its devotees.

“It is our way of saying thanks,” said an official.
