Flares and fire as Ukrainians protest outside Russian consulate in Kharkiv

Dozens of Ukrainian protesters gather outside the Russian consulate in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine, to protest Russian aggression in the Sea of Azov.

"The activists called on the President of Ukraine to break off all diplomatic relations with Russia, to close the consulate, and to fully institute martial law," said the filmer.

The beginning of the video shows participants floating paper boats in rainwater outside the consulate. The boats are symbolic of the three naval vessels and 23 crew members captured by Russia off the coast of Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

People then light flares outside. Later footage shows a tree on fire inside the compound. Russian state media alleged that fireworks being thrown into the compound set the tree alight.

According to the filmer, the protesters also threw eggs at the embassy and burned the Russian flag.

On Sunday night, some 300 people protested outside the Russian embassy in Kiev, with people chanting "peace to Donbass, death to the Kremlin, death to Russia." A nearby car with Russian diplomatic plates was also set alight.
