Flash floods batter suspension bridge in southern Thailand

Heavy rain in southern Thailand this morning (Sunday) caused flash floods which battered a suspension bridge leading to a Buddhist temple.

Footage shows how the river outside the Wat Khiri Wong religious building in Nakhon Si Thammarat was transformed within moments into a raging torrent.

Gallons of muddy water running down from the nearby mountains pummelled the flimsy bridge - turning it into an intimidating crossing.

Once the rain has subsided, worshippers were able to walk tentatively across the bridge, with the fast-flowing water running below them.
