Grandma & granddaughter rescued from house fire by police officer

On 06/21/2019 at approximately 1130 hours, Officers responded to the 100 block of Becker in reference to a house fire. P.O. Rodriguez was first to arrive on scene. He observed the main floor of the residence fully engulfed in flames and could here cries for help coming from a basement window. Located inside the basement was the homeowner and her three year old granddaughter. The basement window would only partially open and was small in size. P.O. Rodriguez kicked open the window and was able to pull the child out of the window and take her to safety. Rodriguez returned to the window and with the help of a neighbor, was able to pull the homeowner to safety as well.

Firefighters from Florissant Valley, Hazelwood, Ferguson, and Berkeley responded, extinguished the fire, and provided medical care to the two victims and P.O. Rodriguez who were all released at the scene and not transported to the hospital.

Great job to P.O. Rodriguez for an awesome response to an intense situation! Who knows how this story could have ended without your quick actions!
