Harbor Seal Seeks Refuge From Hunting Orca Pod

Occurred on November 2, 2025 / Saratoga Passage, Camano Island, Washington, USA

Info from Licensor: "Charvet Drucker, Smith Siromaskul, Terese DeBoer Drummond off of Camano Island, WA. There were reports of orcas near Camano and when we arrived on scene three different families were present in the group; the T137s, T36/36Bs and T99B (11 orcas total). We watched as this group engaged in hunting techniques such as tail lobs and porpoising and a seal coming up for air after the hunting behaviors were observed. After about 30-40 minutes, the seal made a beeline for the boat (we were 300 yards away from them) and jumped on the back. The orcas scanned the boat for about 15-20 minutes before moving on. Once the orcas were far enough, we turned the engine on and took the seal closer to shore."
