Huge fire in Bristol factory causes homes to be evacuated


A huge fire is ravaging an industrial unit in Bristol, causing the evacuation of more than 40 houses on Friday night (May 3).

More than 70 firefighters are tackling the blaze in Speedwell. They may have to spend the night there according to officials.

Local residents reported hearing explosions and the fire could be seen over a large part of the city.

The filmer told Newsflare that he had been evacuated and that he was not sure his house was safe. He added: "Whole street has been evacuated, warnings of asbestos in the air."

Fire Chief Mick Crennell called the fire a "major incident" and tweeted that the teams were working "very hard in challenging circumstances to keep our communities safe".

The cause of the fire is not yet known and no injuries have been reported.
