Indian villager forced to live in treehouse after elephants destroy his home

A villager in eastern India has started living in a treehouse with his son to remain safe from wild elephants.

This comes after a herd of wild elephants destroyed Sudya Mahakud’s home in Keonjhar district of eastern Odisha three days ago, telling a local news agency: “A herd of wild elephants has been giving us sleepless nights."

While Mahakud has asked the government to build a new home as compensation, forest officials said a squad had been formed to track the movement of elephants.

Many parts of India, including Odisha, are witnessing increasing incidents of elephant-human conflict.
