Thousands of kids enjoy a stunning military air show as part of Thailand's National Children's Day celebrations.

The annual event held this year on January 12 sees special parties laid on across the country for youngsters - and they even get to ride trains for free.

Footage from the Don Muang airport shows children enjoying a special display of aircraft and an air show featuring the Royal Thai Air Force's fighter jets.

Air Force Commander-in-Chief ACM Chaiyapruek Disayasarin opened the celebration at 8am and the event continued until 4pm. There was a combat show by F-16 and F-5 fighter jets, and a rescue operation display by EC-725 helicopters.

Thailand's National Children's Day - known in Thai as 'Wan Dek (Sweet Children) celebrates youngsters, honouring the country's saying ''Children are the future of the nation, if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous''.

This year, the event's motto was ''Good children are diligent and crave for learning, for a bright future.''

Events are laden with messages telling children of their importance to the development of the country in the future.
