Kindergarten student joins teachers in 1st US charter school strike

A Chicago kindergarten student and her mother joins the Acero Cruz teachers in their strike for a fair contract in Chicago, Illinois on December 4.

Chicago Teachers Union president Jesse Sharkey said the strike would last "until they [Acero] come back with an offer that respects our students and the people who educate them," reported AP.

This is the first charter school strike in the country, spanning 15 of Acero's schools, and comes after increasing teacher dissatisfaction across the US, with teachers in West Virginia securing a pay rise in March this year after weeks of mass resistance, inspiring similar actions.
