Light pollution from greenhouses turn Ontario skies a fiery red


Residents in parts of Ontario have been seeing eerie-colored skies thanks to greenhouses switching to new high intensity LED lights.

This video, filmed in Elmira, north of Waterloo, on January 4, shows a fiery red glow in the sky. According to the filmer, the effect is most spectacular when there is a low cloud ceiling and moisture in the air, which the light reflects off.

"Light pollution is from greenhouses is becoming more of an issue in Canada since weed was legalized, there are big companies growing large amounts of marijuana for the legal market and suddenly the night sky in some towns and isn't so dark anymore," he said.
