Locals take part in bull-taming festival in South India


The first officially-permitted Jallikattu organised as part of Pongal festivities this year began at Thachankurichi village in Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu, located in the southern region of India, on Monday.

Over 800 bulls from various districts and about 250 tamers have been permitted for the event after subjecting them to medical examination
Security arrangements have been put in place by the police at the venue where medical and veterinary teams have been deployed.

Inaugurated by Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, the event is being held in accordance with stipulated guidelines. Over 200 bulls have been let out from the Vaadivasal till now, said police sources.
