Loved-up tortoise scales garden furniture to reach female

An amorous tortoise in Miami, Florida went to extraordinary lengths recently to get to a female on the other side of a low fence.

Security camera footage shows "Tank" the sulcata tortoise using his bulky body to first move a seat nearer the wooden fence.

Then, utterly deliberately, he climbs onto the item of furniture and drops off the other side of the fence onto the lawn where the female tortoise is standing.

Tank's owner says that he isn't certain the reptile moved the seat deliberately nearer the fence because he's never managed to do it again.

However, he is sure Tank knew what he was doing when he climbed onto the chair to get over the fence.
