M1 near Leeds closed after huge lorry fire

A lorry has caught fire on the M1 southbound near Leeds in the north of England.

Incredible video shows the lorry quickly disintegrating due to the blaze as firefighters are on the scene.

The filmer says he witnessed explosions from tires and a fire extinguisher.

The incident caused 30-minute delays spanning 4.5 miles, Highways England tweeted.

The M1 was closed in both directions, according to a statement from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The fire has since been put out.

"The northbound M1 has been fully reopened and the southbound exit slip and link to the tunnel are also open, the closure remains between the slip roads and will remain as we assess the damage to the carriageway," Highways England said.
