Man pours kerosene on line of fire before walking barefoot over it
A 23-year-old man was seen pouring kerosene on a line of fire before walking barefoot over it in a ritual to bring him and his family good luck and prosperity in eastern India.
The video, shot in the Chatra district of Jharkhand on November 12, shows a young man stepping on the flames while crossing from one end to the other. Two other men helping him cross can also be seen spraying kerosene after each crossing.
The boy continuously keeps doing the ritual while his friends assist him in fuelling the fire and holding him as he crosses the fire line. He is also seen bending and holding his legs as he feels the heat burning his legs after crossing the fire line.
A group of watching people can also be seen around who have come to watch the boy perform the ritual.
This festival is commonly practised to not only bring luck and prosperity but is also said to heal people and free them of impure hearts.
In south India this ritual is known as Thimithi, the same concept is borrowed as it is a re-enactment of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
The boy performing the ritual is safe now except that he is left with a few small blisters on his legs, but it is still considered risky, though has not had any official censure from government authorities.
