Nationwide demonstrations as protestors rally against postal services privatization

Demonstrators gathered at locations across the country on Monday. October 8, to protest the Trump administration’s proposed plan to privatize the nation's postal services.

With the slogan “The U.S. mail is not for sale,” United States Postal Services (USPS) employees and community members took the streets in over a hundred cities. This video, filmed by Natasha Patterson, shows the demonstration in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Earlier in the year, Trump issued an executive order to study the possibility of restructuring the business model of the postal services, which he said was necessary to prevent a “taxpayer-funded bailout.” USPS has reported steady losses over the years, with the last time it made a profit being over a decade ago.

USPS employs 7.5 million people across the country, according to the American Postal Workers Union.
