Nazaré surfer gets wiped out scaling 60ft wave

Incredible footage from the legendary surfing beach at Nazaré, Portugal shows Australian big wave surfer, Russell Bierke, charging one of the biggest waves that day before wiping out.

Bierke, 21, managed to keep control for a moment on the wave but wiped out after a massive surf explosion behind him, forcing him underwater. Bierke was able to resurface just in time to catch a quick breath before the next wave impact forced him under again.

Luckily he was rescued by award-winning big wave surfer Lucas "Chumbo" Chianca from Brazil, who arrived on a jet-ski. This was done during the biggest session of the season so far, on November 7, with waves exceeding 60 feet in height.
