Northern Scotland lashed with 75mph winds and heavy rain

Winds of up to 75mph have lashed northern Scotland this afternoon (January 7) causing foliage to fly into the road.

In video of the winds on a highway by Dornoch bridge near Inverness, gorse bushes can be seen uprooted and flung into the oncoming path of drivers.

Motorists have been braving the extreme weather most of the day but authorities have since closed the bridge.
