One dead, nine missing in Himalayan mountain pass avalanche


At least one person was reported dead and nine feared trapped in the snow in Khardung La, a mountain pass in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday.

A vehicle was hit by an avalanche at around 7 am, according to local media.

Rescue operations are underway at the mountain pass, which, at 17,500 feet, is among the world's highest motorable roads.
