Plane spotters gather to watch Europe's 'largest exercise for fighter jets'

Aviation enthusiasts gathered to watch scores of combat aircraft landing on at a Netherlands military airbase.

The planes had taken part in the international Frisian Flag exercise at Leeuwarden Air Base on Tuesday (April 9), which the filmer describes as "the greatest European exercise with combat aircraft."

Dozens of aircraft from Germany, Poland, Netherlands, the UK, France and the US took part.

According to local news reports, the main goal of the exercise is to train joint and combined air operations in a broad spectrum of scenarios.

In a statement published earlier this month, US forces' DVIDS service described Frisian Flag as "12-day NATO partnership exercise."

Frisian Flag allows "all international participants of the exercise to execute training on operational tactics with multiple coalition partners like Germany, Poland, France, and the United States," it added.
